Despite the thousands of letters from Russian citizens with demand to involve independent experts and Jean Michel Cousteau’s team, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment involved only MOSCVARIUM and VNIRO to examine animals – two organizations that work closely with the capture companies, actively lobby and advocate for the capture of marine mammals.

The Presidential Council for the Development of Civil Society and Human Rights also publicly asked to bring to the rescue of animals from the “whale jail” members of the “Free Russian Whales” coalition http://president-sovet.ru/presscenter/news/read/5343/.
“ Among the members of coalition scientists and specialists in marine mammals. The Council also pointed to a conflict of interest in VNIRO involvement, however the Ministry of Natural Resources involved only VNIRO and now also Moscvarium, which had lost a beluga just recently.

We ask you to write to the administration of President and ask to involve Jean Michel Cousteau’s team and experts from the “Free Russian whales” coalition to work on the release of animals from the whale jail.
