The famous actress Pamela Anderson appealed to Russian President Vladimir Putin in an open letter with a request to decide on the release of orcas and beluga whales.
The actress expressed her gratitude to the Russian government for preventing the export of orcas and beluga whales from Russia and called it a leadership position in the protection of whales and marine biodiversity.
Also, the actress thanked the president and the government for the first steps taken to free the captives from the “whale jail” and asked for a final decision on the release of animals as soon as possible. Pamela Anderson expressed her hope for the joint work of Russian and international ecologists and scientists in the development of a plan for the return of orcas and belugas to the native waters of Russian Far East.
The actress wrote that the news about the “whale jail” near Nakhodka, ice conditions in places of detention and the suffering of orcas and beluga whales are causing concern to the international community. Pamela Anderson is confident that by releasing these animals back into the wild, Russia can further demonstrate its leadership, which will be welcomed worldwide.
It is worth noting that it is not the first time that Pamela Anderson expresses concern about the issue of captures and keeping
cetaceans in captivity in Russia and that she is a member of the Advisory Board of the International Fund for the Protection of Animals – IFAW.
We are very grateful to Pamela Anderson for supporting the protection of whales in Russia and around the world.
