The governor of Primorsky Krai Oleg Kozhemyako invited famous scientist Jean-Michel Cousteau and his colleagues to assist with the Whale Jail situation

Recall that last week, Jean-Michel Cousteau and his colleagues sent a letter to Vladimir Putin and asked the President of Russia to free the orcas and beluga whales from the whale jail and also offered their expert assistance for the successful release of cetaceans into their natural habitat.

This is another important step in the right direction towards the release of orcas and beluga whales from the whale jail.

Successful cases of the rehabilitation of dozens of dolphins, killer whales, beluga whales, porpoises and other cetaceans leave no doubt that all our captives can be returned to freedom.

All 11 orcas and 87 belugas are still wild animals that have been kept in captivity for less than 1 year. It is impossible to erase the genetic memory and instincts that have formed in cetaceans for centuries in just several months spent in captivity.

For successful rehabilitation of our orcas and belugas the joint work of Russian specialists, scientists and ecologists with international specialists in the rehabilitation and reintroduction of cetaceans into their natural habitat is necessary. Jean-Michel Cousteau and his colleagues have previous experience in the rehabilitation of cetaceans.

We hope that all the words of the authorities will very soon turn into real actions for the rehabilitation of orcas and beluga whales and preparation for them to be release to their home, where their relatives are waiting for them!
