Same companies that caught killer whales and beluga whales received a contract for 38.2 million rubles ( 608 000 USD) to transport 2 orcas and 6 belugas to freedom.

This follows from the public procurement data that lawyers of Sakhalin Environment Watch managed to find.

VNIRO (All-Russian Research Institute of Fisheries and Oceanography) had signed a contracts for 38.2 million rubles with the companies Oceanarium DV, Sochi Dolphinarium, Afalina and White Whale.

The documents state that companies will also have to independently dispose of the corpses of killer whales and beluga whales who will not survive during transportation.

The release of two killer whales and six belugas from the bay near Nakhodka became known during the Live Q&A translation of President Vladimir Putin on June 20. VNIRO signed a contract with trappers the day before – on June 19th. At the same time, Putin made his previous order to solve the problem with animals until March 1, with the involvement of interested public organizations, which has not happened so far. The presidential order is ignored – interested people are not allowed, and instead, those responsible for the whole tragedy will receive money for transportation services. The Pacific NAVY Fleet offered its assistance in transportation, but their offer was not approved and the contracts were received by those who are least interested in the success of the rehabilitation of their own captives ….
