Russian Fishery propose to capture 10 orcas and 282 belugas in the Far Eastern waters of Russia in 2020 ⠀

It seems that the “whale jail” story didn’t teach a lesson to the officials and the so-called “scientists” of fisheries agencies.

The Fishery and VNIRO began the procedure of public discussion of the materials of the total allowable catch (TAC) of marine mammals. They propose to capture 10 killer whales and 82 belugas in the Sea of Okhotsk, and another 200 belugas – in the Bering, Chukchi and East Siberian seas in 2020.

Right now and until mid-April, anyone can see the TAC materials in the branches of VNIRO-TINRO in Primorye, KhabarovskNIRO, KamchatNIRO, SakhNIRO and MagadanNIRO. Public hearings will be held from April 19 to April 25 in all “sea” regions of the Far East.

We will not let the captures happen without a fight. Our coalition will prepare a detailed analysis of TAC materials early next week.

Stay tuned.
